Lessons

Premiere Seattle studio for saxophone and clarinet lessons.

With over a decade of experience, Evan brings a deep commitment to his teaching and has become one of the most in-demand educators in the Seattle area.  In addition to his active private studio, Evan regularly participates in classroom instruction for local grade schools and teaches masterclasses at the collegiate level.  He is also the co-director of the Seattle Saxophone Institute, an innovative summer music camp that strives to embrace the saxophone’s expressive possibilities across all genres.  Evan aims to go beyond simple music instruction, and embraces his role as a mentor guiding students in their development both as musicians and citizens.

Evan’s private studio is a place where fun and engaging music study leads to lifelong learning potential.

Evan’s passion for teaching is the bedrock of his musical foundation. He approaches the craft of musical development as a joyful experiment and guides his students to approach learning curiously. He acts as a catalyst for musical exploration and mastery by guiding students through a personal curriculum tailored to their interests and abilities and is constantly seeking out and developing new teaching materials.

Evan welcomes diverse student backgrounds and enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities. He works most commonly with students in 4th-12th grade on both saxophone and clarinet. A frequent performer within modern jazz and pop settings, Evan also specializes in classical saxophone concepts and style, and holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Saxophone Performance from the University of Washington.

Student Accomplishments

Evan’s mission as a teacher is to help students achieve their personal goals and develop a lifelong passion for music and dedicated study to any craft.  While his studio philosophy is to work toward intrinsic goals, his students’ continued study is often manifested by placement in their top school bands, including some of Seattle’s most respected and storied jazz programs.  Evan’s students regularly perform in honor bands and solo festivals.  They annually take home state and regional honors and appear frequently at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival and All-State/All-Northwest Honor Bands.  Many of Evan’s students continue to play music in college and have won considerable scholarships as a result of their studies.
